Your pet’s health matters! Here at Follow Your Heart Animal Hospital we are focused on the health of your beloved pets. Which starts with your pet’s Wellness Exams! Wellness exams are the foundation for the health and longevity of your pet. During the exam, the veterinarian will examine your pet and discuss any abnormalities. Your pet’s wellness exam gives the veterinarian a chance to recognize potential diseases or abnormalities in the early stages, before they develop into big problems. And it’s a great time for you to chat about preventative care, food choices, mild concerns, behavior changes or things to keep an eye out for.

Just like us, our pets can become sick or injured. Despite all the precautions taken for preventative care, illness or injury can strike. We at Follow Your Heart Animal Hospital will always do our best to see your pet in a timely manner. We understand that this may be a stressful time for you and your family; we will provide compassionate veterinary care for your pet, but also take the time to sit down and explain to you the diagnosis and options for treatment and will answer all of your questions to the best of our ability. Our approach is to provide outstanding veterinary care that is effective, educational and as stress free as possible. 

Surgery is an invasion into the body and always has a risk for complications. Anesthesia facilitates surgical treatment for your pet. Anesthesia is not as risky as it used to be, but there is still always a small risk of complications. Many steps can be taken to minimize these risks. Proper planning is vital for success.​

Pre-surgical laboratory evaluation is the standard of care in veterinary practice and is required in our practice for all animals undergoing general anesthesia. Even in a young and seemingly healthy pet, pre-surgical blood tests will help to minimize risk. ​Further preoperative evaluation may be necessary in some instances. such as a chest X-ray prior to a surgical procedure or a dental prophylaxis.

After your pets surgery, they will be continually monitored by our veterinarian and our experienced, compassionate veterinary technicians.​​

According to the ASPCA, over 10 million dogs and cats are either lost or stolen in the United States every year. Microchipping your pet is one of the best ways to ensure that your pet will be returned to you should he or she become missing at some point in their life. Microchipping is a very quick procedure in which an RFID chip with a unique identification number is placed just under your pets skin by, or with the supervision of, our veterinarian. Registering your pets new identification number with your contact information is fast and easy to do online from home or on your phone! Almost all veterinary offices and shelters are equipped with microchip scanners to scan pets brought in as strays. 

Gingivitis and periodontal disease are the most common diseases affecting pets in the United States. 85% of dogs and cats over three years old have some form of dental disease. Proper professional dental care is as important to our pets as it is for us. A dental evaluation is included with every examination, and we will discuss and make recommendations regarding your pet’s dental health. Unfortunately, proper dental care for pets always requires anesthesia. Non-anesthetic dental cleanings are tempting, but they often cause more harm than good. We will take every precaution to make sure that your pet’s dental procedure is carried out as safely and carefully as possible. We will endeavor to save teeth where possible, but loose or fractured teeth will often require extraction. Other options are available.
