Dental Prophylaxis

Gingivitis and periodontal disease are the most common diseases affecting pets in the United States. 85% of dogs and cats over three years old have some form of dental disease. Proper professional dental care is as important to our pets as it is for us. A dental evaluation is included with every examination, and we will discuss and make recommendations regarding your pet’s dental health. Unfortunately, proper dental care for pets always requires anesthesia. Non-anesthetic dental cleanings are tempting, but they often cause more harm than good. We will take every precaution to make sure that your pet’s dental procedure is carried out as safely and carefully as possible. In the course of proper dental care, it may become necessary to extract teeth. We will endeavor to save teeth where possible, but loose or fractured teeth will often require extraction. Other options are available. Please ask us if you have questions regarding your pet’s dental health.
